Years ago I rescued a stack of middle school American History textbooks from the discard pile at my school. I wasn't inspired to cut them up until last spring when I really started thinking about where our history is going and what it is going to look like in the future.
I created a tapestry of history that spills out of the textbook. As I cut the pages and rolled sheets and sheets together, I was so intrigued by the captions and illustrations. So many of the headings repeated themselves through history. The artwork, illustrations, and photos captured so many faces and dramatic events. As I compiled each weft of the weaving I found that if I included all the headings and images that were intriguing, the project would be more than I could handle! I ended the weaving with Martin Luther King and tied off the warp and weft ends so that it could be continued.
